A massive congratulations to Rydon Community College on achieving a Silver in the South and South East In Bloom awards and to Storrington First School on achieving a Silver Gilt!
The efforts all have made in Storrington this year has been has been amazing.
Well Done!!
We are pleased to announce that the local Storrington in Bloom competition has now closed and judging has taken place.
This year entrants were either submitted by themselves or nominated by a friend or neighbour.
The entrants were then independently judged by Parham House’s very own head gardener Tom Brown.
The results will be announced at the award ceremony on Thursday 17th September.

Storrington Conservation Society helped facilitate an evening of woodland fun for our local Brownie unit to earn the “In the Woods” badge by bark rubbing, measuring tree height, identifying leaves, looking for bugs and tree hugging! All followed by delicious marshmallows toasted on a campfire!
Fryern Dell will be featured in our tour for the South & South East in Bloom judges in July. The site is already used by Storrington First School for their Forest Schools lessons and we are delighted to see it being enjoyed more and more by the young people of Storrington.
Friends of Meadowside have been working with Horsham District Council on a five year plan for the meadow area in Meadowside. The group have consulted with many interested parties, including Storrington in Bloom, on the future for this site. The first draft management plan is now released for consultation. Today our volunteers will be selling Mongolian Giant Sunflowers to be grown on for the 2015 Children’s Challenge. These sunflowers can grow up to 14 feet!
Get down to the Duck Race in the Library Car Park to buy your sunflower for £1 – send us a photo and measurement by 11th September and the winner will be announced at our awards ceremony on 17th September.
On Wednesday 19th November, 2nd Storrington Guides had a themed evening to celebrate the life of Cicely Mary Barker creator of the flower fairies in recognition of Storrington in Bloom’s local theme for 2015. The Guides created fairy toadstools from marshmallows, learnt about Cicely’s life, read the flower fairy poems and created flower fairies of their own. A poster was created for display in the village.
On Thursday 18th September, entrants were invited to Squires Garden Centre for the annual Storrington In Bloom award ceremony.

On Wednesday 17th September 2014 six representatives from Storrington attended the South and Southeast In Bloom Award Ceremony.
With 3 categories entered we were amazed to come away with not 3 but 4 awards!!
St Marys church, Storrington was awarded Silver for best church
Riverside walk, Storrington was awarded Silver for best conservation area
Storrington for best small town was awarded a Silver Gilt

Brewers Yard was awarded a discretional judges award.

An enthusiastic gang from Storrington First School met this afternoon to help build the villages first Bugs Hotel.
Constructed from recycled, biodegradable items such as clay pots, branches and straw, Our 6 storey insect haven will no doubt be home to a host of creepy crawlies in the coming months.
Big thank you to Tim from the Parish Council for all his help with this project.
An afternoon of sunshine, smiles and yummy cakes!
Storrington In Bloom hosted its first open gardens event on Sunday 13th July to raise funds for the Villages entry into the competition.
Ticket holders got to see 3 of the best gardens our village has to offer as well as purchase a range of plants, cakes and refreshments.
Ticket entries raised a whopping £600 and profits from the cake and plants stalls was donated to Macmillan Nurses, Worthing Cancer Care Unit and Friends of Meadowside.
Massive well done to all involved.
And a BIG thanks to all our volunteers and local businesses without whom none of this would be possible.
