On Friday the South & South East in Bloom regional results were announced at an awards ceremony at the Amex in Brighton. Storrington had three entries in their competition and received the following results:

  • St Mary’s Churchyard achieved a Silver Gilt in the churchyard category
  • Place Villerest was awarded a Silver Gilt in the single floral display category
  • Storrington Town Centre again received a Silver Gilt award, achieving 80% of the possible points but still 10 points short of the unattainable Gold!

However, we celebrate that the score continues to increase and we have now achieved 50 more points than our first entry back in 2012. There are many people to thank for this improvement over the past six years, and special awards were also presented:

  • For even more trips with the watering cart than usual – Nick Charman
  • For endless supplies of water during the long hot summer – Steve Tovee
  • For their poppy display marking 100 years since the end of the 1st World War – 1st Sullington Brownies
  • For endless support of the In Bloom entry and clean ups – Sue & Eddie Shelton
  • For the transformation of the Mill Lane car park beds – Gilly & Peter North
  • For a consistently beautiful front garden year after year – Marilyn Dadds

And in recognition of the endless hours invested over many years and the transformation of a number of areas of Storrington – to Gill Ion and Pat Mansbridge.

Scarecrows are coming to Storrington!

Posted

We’re having a change this year. Instead of asking youth groups to enter a wheelbarrow competition we have decided to organise a scarecrow trail. Groups, young and old, have been invited to enter and in a separate category families have made their own entries. The scarecrows will be on display this weekend – Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th July between 9am and 5pm. Judges will be visiting the scarecrows during this time too.

The weather will be fine, so why not take a stroll around this weekend and let us know your favourites on our Facebook page. A full list of entries is here.

Thank you to all entrants for your efforts.

Quiz Night raises £777

Quizmaster

Saturday 15th October saw the 3rd annual Storrington in Bloom fundraising quiz night – our main fundraising event of the calendar. 75 quizzers answered 10 rounds of questions on various subjects including ‘these boots were made for’, ‘black or white’ and ‘he ain’t heavy’.

Quiz 1           Quiz 2

Participants enjoyed a delicious ploughmans supper during the interval while our quizzers tried to determine the brands from photos of their list of ingredients! Ticket sales, bar and raffle takings raised a huge £777.

Our thanks to everyone who attended – it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We will start working on the questions for next year!!
